Western States Environmental, Inc. has an immediate opening for an experienced HazMat Driver/Technician. The candidate we are looking for has the following MINIMUM qualifications:
- Class B CDL with Tanker/HazMat Endorsement
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER certificate
- Experience with hazardous waste consolidation/packaging/manifest preparation
- Clean drivers abstract
- Pass pre-employment drug screen
- Experience with Hazardous Waste Manifests and Land Disposal Restriction forms
The ideal candidate has 5 or more years of experience in the environmental industry, and can demonstrate their knowledge of the above MINIMUM requirements. Resume required, and if you do not meet the above minimum requirements, you will not be considered.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
- Vactor truck operation
- Vacuum truck operation
- Sweeper truck operation
- Field sampling (storm water, contaminated soil, waste characterization)
- Heavy equipment operator experience (example: backhoe)
Overview of Job Opportunity:
Western States Environmental, Inc. is a small but established full-service environmental company. We specialize in storm water management and storm drain cleaning, but we also do a wide variety of other work, including emergency response, hazardous waste consolidation/packaging/transportation, tank cleaning, storm water sampling, and contaminated site cleanup. The work is highly varied, and may change daily, so you will have opportunities to do a lot of different kinds of work, using a variety of equipment. If you are looking for a position where you will just drive a truck, this job is not for you.
We need a person that is able and willing to work as part of a team, occasionally as a lead, and frequently independently. Getting the job done is important, but getting it done RIGHT, in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations, and meeting the customer’s needs is paramount.
We own the following equipment – you will need to have the ability to operate all of them:
- 2 Vactor Trucks
- 1 Liquid Vac
- 2 Street Sweepers
- 1 26’ Box Truck (air brakes)
Below are some specific examples of the work you will do on a weekly basis:
- Operate a Vactor Truck to clean catch basins and hydro-jet drain lines
- Operate a Vacuum Truck to clean an Oil/Water Separator
- Operate a Street Sweeper as part of an emergency response to a diesel or hydraulic oil spill
- Drive a box truck w/lift gate to a big-box store to identify/consolidate hazardous waste, package/label/manifest the waste, and transport it to a hazardous waste TSD.
- Operate an excavator to remove petroleum-contaminated soil into a roll-off box
- Take storm water samples at an industrial facility, on short-notice
- Operate a Street Sweeper at a large commercial logging facility
